Dune Extended Edition Released

After two decades(!) of waiting, this morning at 12:01 a.m., David Lynch's, as well as "Alan Smithee's," versions of Dune (1984) were both released as part of MCA Home Video's Extended Edition Release.

Those for whom this film is the only source of knowledge of the Dune Universe, the pivotal role of the Duncan Idahos in the unfolding of the Golden Path is likely unknown. Played in the film by actor Richard Jordan (pictured to the left in his role as Sandman Francis 7 in Logan's Run(1976)), Duncan's role is little more than a walk-on appearance. Given the deviation of the film's ending from that of the novel, it is unclear how the Duncan Idaho role may have been developed or eliminated in future adaptations.
